Audi A8, A6, A7 and Q7 vehicles recalled for fire risks

If it sometimes feels as if automakers from the U.S., Japan, Italy, South Korea and the UK are in the midst of one recall after another, that is because that is exactly what is going on. Of course, we should not leave Germany out of the list of nations famed for their cars yet struggling to keep owners safe.

German luxury automaker Audi recently announced that it is recalling 75,000 of its high-end vehicles due to risks of fires.

The Associated Press and Fortune magazine report that the recall is over concerns by the U.S. government that parts of certain Audi model fuel injection systems can leak gasoline. Unsurprisingly, when leaked fuel makes contact with an ignition source or heated engine part, the possibility of a fire becomes very real.

Audi says it is recalling certain models in order to prevent damage to the affected cars and SUVs and to prevent injuries.

The recalled vehicles include the company's A8 sedans made from 2015 to 2018. It is also recalling A6, A7 and Q7 SUVs manufactured in the model years 2016 to last year.

According to the news reports, no injuries to drivers or passengers related to ignition system flaws have been reported to American regulators.

Owners of the affected models are to be notified by mail by Audi of the recall later this month. The German auto icon will then replace at no cost to owners the right and left fuel injector rails.

Last year, Audi recalled nearly one million cars and SUVs because of unrelated fire safety risks. Those vehicles were recalled over electric coolant pumps that could potentially overheat and trigger fires.

Far too often, owners of defective new or used vehicles are exposed to risks of injuries and devalued assets because of dealer or automaker deception. Contact an attorney devoted to consumer protection to find out about the legal options available to you.
