Jeep Renegade Traction Control Problems

I have received multiple reports from clients about malfunctioning traction control systems in 2015 and 2016 Jeep Renegades. In these vehicles, the traction control light will come on and the engine will lose power while the vehicle is making a turn at lower speeds, such as at 25 to 35 miles per hour.

Traction control is a vehicle safety feature that is designed to control wheel slip. If your car senses that one of the wheels is slipping, the traction control system will activate to apply brake pressure to the slipping wheel and can also reduce engine output until the slipping wheel regains traction. While it is not unexpected for traction control to activate when pulling out on wet pavement or making a fast or sharp turn, this issue in the Renegades with the traction control light and loss of power happens in normal, low-speed turns on dry pavement when the system should not be activating.

This poses a serious safety hazard for drivers. An unexpected loss of acceleration in a turn places a Jeep Renegade driver in danger of being hit from behind. A driver is also at risk of being struck from the side if traction control comes on and the vehicle loses power while the driver is making a turn across traffic.

There are no reported technical service bulletins or recalls from FCA, or Chrysler, as of the date of this post. Because there have been multiple reports of this serious safety issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, FCA must alert consumers now and come up with a fix quickly. Until that happens, Jeep Renegade owners should take their vehicle to a Jeep authorized dealership immediately if they experience this issue, and keep documentation of the service visits. Consumers should also report incidents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at If an FCA dealership fails to repair problems with your Jeep Renegade under warranty, contact Attorney Christina Gill Roseman at or 800-745-5259 for free Lemon Law help.
